Job Details Job Summary

The Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) serves as the Chief Instructional Officer by leading, planning organizing, and administering the instructional program and related support activities of a learning-centered college to meet the needs of a diverse student body. The VPAA reports directly to the President and oversees the Instructional Dean for Workforce Development and the Instructional Dean for Arts and Sciences. Acts as an advisor to the College President in matters pertaining to instructional programs in the District; Works closely with the Vice President for Student Affairs, and the Vice President for Administrative Services and Information Technology. Works with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff students and the public.


Essential Functions
20% - Provides oversight to the college's academic programs and assessment activities including the development of an Academic Affairs Strategic Plan. This includes planning, monitoring and evaluating the programs including but not limited to counseling, dual enrollment, general education, business and information technology, art and photography, biology, chemistry, communication and world languages, English/reading/journalism, fitness and wellness, mathematics, nursing, performing arts, philosophy/religious studies, physical science, psychology, public safety sciences, social sciences, technology and consumer services, automotive services. Also includes providing leadership regarding institutional and specialized accreditation. Coordinates College Curriculum Committee. Assures compliance with all external regulatory agencies and organizations for all areas of responsibilities, promotes innovative approaches to teaching and learning
20% - Provides oversight to the systems supporting the online learning program. This includes chairing the Developmental Team, as well as leading the development of policy and standards, strategic and planning and outcomes related to online learning. Supervises and evaluates academic departments
15% - Provides oversight and broad supervision to functional area of library and media services, instructional design, course support, development and design, curriculum review among others. This includes meeting with functional department heads to plan, review budget, and deal with personnel issues. Supervision and evaluation of faculty. Dismissal and granting of appointive status, coordinates faculty professional development; prepares and monitors budget; oversees the preparation of master class schedule
15% - Provides supervision of the college's faculty. This includes making faculty load assignments, evaluating faculty, monitoring projects and attending/chairing meetings related to faculty. Resolves conflict including instructional grievances by students and complex legal issues
10% - Prepares reports and presentations that represent the college locally, regionally and nationally
10% - Participates in District leadership meetings such as the VP of Academic Affairs Council and Curriculum Council
10% - Participates as a member of the College's senior management team. This includes setting strategic direction, providing budget input, formulating the Enrollment Management Plan, representing the college to external constituencies, etc.


Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Extensive experience in higher education administration and leadership
- Experience initiating, developing, and implementing contemporary teaching and learning practices
- Experience in organizational, operational, academic and strategic planning
- Experience in hiring, evaluating, and supervising faculty and staff
- Experience in teaching at the college-level
- Experience in online learning programs
- Experience with accreditation
- Experience with assessment and program evaluation
- Experience developing academic related programs for historically under-represented student groups

Desired Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of upper level higher education leadership and management experience
- Experience working in a full service multi-campus and/or multi-college system
- Three (3) to five (5) years experience planning, monitoring and evaluating dual enrollment programs
- Experience with planning and implementing operational and capital equipment budgets
- Full-time teaching experience
- Doctorate degree
