To provide leadership in strengthening completion rates, productivity and effectiveness of instructional programs of the University; to coordinate management of personnel and fiscal resources; to administer University policies and procedures; and to work with the president and the cabinet to maintain vitality and quality in achieving the mission of the University and in meeting the educational needs of a diverse student population. Must have a demonstrated ability to lead collaborative teams and build relationships with internal and external constituencies. The successful candidate will possess a collegial and open management style, effective interpersonal communication skills and a knowledge of the special challenges of the college student of today.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience: An earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher learning in the individual's discipline, and a record of excellence in research, teaching, and professional service. Professional qualifications meriting appointment as a tenured professor at TSU; appreciation and understanding of the multiple missions of a comprehensive land-grant university; a minimum of 5 years academic administrative experience at the level of dean or above; and a clear understanding of issues and challenges facing 21st century academic communities; thorough knowledge of promotion and tenure issues; demonstrated skills in fiscal management and budgeting, resource development, and resource allocation; demonstrated commitment to diversity; innovative and progressive leadership skills and a proven record as a consensus builder; a record of successful academic entrepreneurship and talent for building innovative collaborations with public/private entities; versatile, successful communication skills; and the ability to utilize fresh strategies to grow enrollment and meet infrastructure requirements.
