Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty serves as the chief academic officer of the College and has overall responsibility for the leadership, vision, and strategic direction of all College academic operations. The VPAA/Dean serves on the President's Cabinet and assists the President and other senior administrators in advancing the mission and goals of the College. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution; have extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate level, preferably at a private liberal arts college or university; and willhave served in an administrative capacity in higher education, preferably at a private liberal arts college or university. He/she should possess excellent communication skills, be an effective advocate for the small college learning environment, demonstrate a collaborative style in working with all campus constituencies, and possess successful experience as an academic administrator.
The College's highest institutional priority is the improvement of academic outcomes for all students and the support of excellence in teaching at all levels, especially in the freshman year. As chief academic officer, the VPAA provides leadership in development of curriculum, recruitment and development of faculty, assessment of academic programs, budgeting for academic programs, and strategic planning for the academic enterprise of the College.A major responsibility will involve leadership in the preparation of the College’s 5-year report for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on College (SACSCOC) for submission in fall 2011. The Vice President for Academic Affairs must have experience in working with accrediting bodies, in assessment of academic programs, and in the design and implementation of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
The goal of Louisburg College is to help students lay a strong academic foundation in preparation for transfer to four-year institutions. Most students who enter Louisburg College are first-generation college students and eligible for Pell Grants. The College projects that a full-time faculty of 25 and approximately 30 part-time instructors will serve an estimated 700 full-time students in fall 2010.
