Job Description:
The Assistant Dean for Students is a senior administrator of the Law School whose primary responsibilities focus on the academic, intellectual, psychological and personal aspects of student life at the Law School. The Assistant Dean supervises a large staff, which includes the Registrar, and devotes much time to counseling students regarding academic and curricular rules and regulations, exam schedules, state and federal requirements regarding bar admission, student academic accommodations pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, protection of confidentiality of student records, and all other matters relating to student well-being.
The Assistant Dean also serves as the representative of the Law School to the New York State Board of Law Examiners, the New York State Bar Association, and other law and educationally related organizations. The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Associate Academic Dean, and plays a critical role in administration of the law school.
Responsibilities:

Supervision of the registration and record-keeping process
Periodic review of students’ academic progress
Supervision of transfer applications (from one law school division to another, and from one law school to another)
Coordination of the Faculty Advisor Program for incoming students and the Faculty Research Program for advanced students
Processing of student status requests (withdrawal, leave of absence, etc.) and applications to joint degree programs
Awarding of commencement honors and post-admission scholarship aid
Revision of Student Handbook and Upper-Class Curriculum Guide
Supervision of the publication of the law school’s year book, Res Gestae; and the completion of questionnaires from accrediting agencies such as the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools and the New York State Education Department

Qualifications:

J.D. is required
Experience in a Law School setting is strongly preferred
