The President and Board of Trustees at Trine University seek nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for University Development. Founded in 1884, Trine University, a private, non-denominational institution, is known for its rigorous academic programs, exceptional faculty, and hands-on experiences. With only 1,900 students, the small class sizes ensure one-on-one attention with faculty who bring their own workplace experience into the classroom. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Trine ranks among the Midwest’s Best Colleges in 2009 and 2010 according to the U.S. News and World Report and the Princeton Review. The University is located on a 400-acre main campus in Angola, Indiana and has satellite locations in Angola, Fort Wayne, South Bend/Mishawaka, and Merrillville, Indiana. The President and Board have recently announced the successful completion of Phase I of their $90 Million “Vision for the Future” capital campaign and are preparing to launch Phase II of the campaign. The new Vice President will play a major part in the preparation and implementation of the campaign. Reporting to the President, the new Vice President is the chief development officer for the University and will direct all fundraising activities and be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the office staff and other staff members assigned to the Development Office. He/she is a member of the President’s Cabinet and works directly with Trustees who are members of the Development Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Provide leadership and strategic direction to build and manage a strong Development staff; be responsible for personnel through hiring and staff development; and evaluate and hold staff accountable for specific goals.
•Establish and implement standards of performance to maximize fundraising potential for annual fund, major and planned gifts, endowment giving, corporate grants, foundations, donor relations, and advancement services.
•Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that addresses long and short term goals through the major donor moves management process for each prospective major donor, ensuring regular and systematic contact by the appropriate University representatives. Work collaboratively with the President on donor prospect development for major gift solicitation.
•Manage the University Development budgets; create spending guidelines and continue to monitor and lower the cost of raising a dollar.
•Prepare and present Development reports for the Board of Trustees and Committee meetings; relate to individual Trustees at the direction of the President.
•Represent the University at special events and functions on and off-campus as requested by the President; perform other related duties as assigned by the President.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Development professional who will be charged with significantly increasing the donor base and increasing the total dollars raised in support of the institution’s immediate needs. The Vice President for University Development should have a Master’s degree and a minimum of five years of successful senior-level experience in educational fundraising, public relations, and organizational staff management and leadership. The President is seeking a strong individual who is professionally active and possesses significant experience in implementing a comprehensive development plan, major gift fundraising, and staff motivation and management. The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to collaborate well with others, personal integrity, self-confidence, creativity, and a working knowledge of all aspects of higher education fundraising skills. S/He will be given the opportunity to build a comprehensive development program geared to take the level of fundraising at Trine University to new heights. He or she will partner with the President to secure the financial resources necessary to meet the challenges of a competitive higher education market. The salary and benefits are competitive.
